For my birthday this year, my parents bought me a one year membership to the Inn Sign Society, mindful that it could be valuable resource when I start my MA in September. Formed in 1988 to effectively catalogue Britains Pub and Inn signs and their names, I can't help feeling that the Society will have their work cut out during the current climate to complete this task before some of these names are lost forever. It's a sad fact that something like 35 pubs a week have been closing down for the last twelve months.Every quarter the society publish a 32 page journal of information about specific pub signs, pub names and general news worthy stories. I'm not quite sure what they will make of my ideas and illustrations but I'm interested in finding out sure enough. That's also two organisations I've joined now in two posts which feels a little bit geeky, but no more than blogging or social networking I guess! Anyway, updates on my pub sign illustrations to follow...
